      Develop presets

Develop presets enable you to quickly apply a specific look or editing style to your images. Please remember that they are only a starting point: after applying one to your photo you will probably still need to tweak some settings to make it look perfect!

Below you will see the 'original' image on the left and the effects of the preset on the right.

      Filename templates

The filename templates below enable you to quickly rename photos.

   Date & ICAO - 'IMG_5678.CR2' becomes '20101208_kedw_5678.CR2'
A very useful preset to apply on import, which adds the date and airfield ICAO to the filename. All you have to do is type the 4-letter ICAO and Lightroom takes care of the rest.

   Magazine - '20101208_kedw_5678.CR2' becomes 'yourname_01.jpg'
When you're sending photos to magazines, you want them to publish your name correctly and the sequence from 01 upwards enables you to attach a seperate document with photo captions. This preset will take care of it when you export the images, fully automated. You only have to replace 'yourname' with your real name after installing it (and don't forget to save the changed settings).

      Panel end marks

As you may have seen from the screenshots in the book (or on this website), Lightroom allows you to use your own panel end marks at the bottom of the panels on the left and right side. Of course it is only a small, irrelevant feature but if you like it you can customize the look of Lightroom with an image you downloaded or created yourself.

How to install
To install a panel end mark, right-click the image above and save it onto your computer. Open up Lightroom, right-click your current panel end mark and select Panel End Mark > Go to Panel End Marks Folder. Copy the image into this folder. Now if you right-click your current panel end mark again, you can select the image from the Panel End Mark folder.
